History:
It was founded in 1892 as post station Mysovaya, the beginning point of trade way to Mongolia and China via Kyakhta. Mysovsk incorporated from 1902. In 1941 it was renamed to Babushkin - in honour of revolutionary I. V. Babushkin shot up at Mysovaya station in 1906. In 1961 Klyuevka settlement was included into city limits.

Architecture and remarkables: Odigitrievskiy cathedral (1714), church of Trinity (the end of the 18 - the beginning of the 19 c.c.), the Large and Small Burse and Guest courtyard (1803-56, architect A.P. Losev).

History:
It was founded in 1666 as Cossack winter quarters at Uda r. for 'yasak' duty from Tunguses and Buryats. In 1689 Verkhneudinskiy ostrog was built. From 1690 administrative centre of western Trans-Baikalia. Incorporated from 1775 to provincial, from 1783 sheading city Verkhneudinsk of Irkutsk vicegernecy (later - province). From 1822 district centre of Irkutsk province, from 1851 - the centre of once more formed Transbaikalian region. Favourable economy-geographic position of Verkhneudinsk contrubuted to transformation of the city to the large trade centre of Trans-Baikalia. Via Kyakhta and Verkhneudinsk commerce with China proceeded. In 1899 via Verkhneudinsk Trans-Siberian way passed. Verkhneudinsk fair to the end of the 19 c. has a turnover up to 2 mln. roubles. In April - Octoer of 1920 Verkhneudinsk was the capital of Far East republic (DVR). In 1921-22 - the centre of autonomous region of Buryats entering in DVR. From 1923 the capital of Buryat-Mongolian ASSR, in 1958-92 - of Buryatian ASSR. In 1934 Verkhneudinsk was renamed to Ulan-Ude (Red Uda).

Culture and museums: Museum of Decembrists.

Architecture and remarkables: In the old part of the city buildings connected with stay of Decembrists were preserved. The is a grave of Decembrist I. I. Gorbachevskiy, a vault-chapel of A. G. Muravyeva, the wife of Decembrist N. M. Muravyev in the city graveyard. In 1980 the house of E. I. Trubetskaya, where Museum of Decembrists was opened, was restored by archive documents. Memorial graveyard of Decembrists close to railway.

History:
The city grew and developed around Petrovskiy iron foundry and iron-making plant founded in 1789 (before 1926 Petrovskiy Zavod settlement). In 1830-39 in Petrovskiy Zavod Decembrists moved here from Chita served hard labour (memorial board is at platform of Petrovskiy Zavod station).

History:
In 1653 explorer Peter Beketov with a group of Cossacks in the mouth of Chita river built Ingodinskoe winter quarters. The first regular Russian settlement at this place sprang up after 1675. Until 1687 it was called Sloboda. In 1699 Chita ostrog was built, from 1821 it was called Chitinskoe habitation. Decembrists were exiled here. From 1851 Chita was the centre of Transbaikalian region, here administration of Transbaikalian Cossack forces was situated. After construction of railway in 1900 Chita was the largest transport junction, industrial centre of Trans-Baikalia. In 1920-22 the capital of Far East republic. From 1922 the centre of Transbaikalian province, from 1926 district city of Far East territory, from 1937 the centre of Chita region, from 2008 the centre of Transbaikalia territory.

History:
It was founded in 1908 as Zmeiny settlement, later it was renamed to Never-I, in 1911 - to Rukhlovo. Rukhlovo was incorporated from 1927 and in 1938 it received the modern name in honour of participant of struggle for Soviet power A. N. Skovorodin killed here in 1920.

Architecture and remarkables: There is a lamasery (datsan) on south western lakeside of Gusinoe lake. It was founded in 1741. Now it is a vast with regular planning complex of temples and lama dwelling-houses with a settlement around it.

History:
It was founded in 1939 as Shakhty settlement owing to mining of bovey coalfield. In 1953 it was transformed to the city and named Gusinoozersk by the name of Gusinoe lake on lakeside of that it's situated. The name of the lake connects that in the past it was a favourite place for nidification of geese

It was founded in 1899 as a settlement of railway builders and Borzya station. It was named by Borzya r., left affluent of Argun' r.

History:
It was founded by a group of Cossacks under guidance of Peter Beketov on the right bank of Shilka opposite the mouth of nercha as Nelyudskiy ostrog (later Monastyrskoe village was on this place, now it's Kalinino village). In 1658 ostrog was placed on a new place: on an island between two arms of Nercha. Because of often floodwaters in 1812 Nerchinsk were transferred on a higher place - to Sazhikov Yar valley.

It is known from 1689 as a winter quarters, in 1783 Sretensk ostrog was founded. Sheading city Sretensk from 1789. It was named by a chapel sanctified in Candlemas (Sretenie). In 1897 Trans-Siberian railway came to Sretensk. Steamboats ran from Sretensk to Blagoveshchensk and Khabarovsk. Sretensk was a typical merchant city, in 1910 40% percent of city population were trading.

History:
First time it was spoken of in 1917. From 1928 work settlement Tyndinskiy for servicing of Amur-Yakutia road. It was named by Tynda r.; the hydronim is from Tungus "tende" - coastal - there was a path used by many travellers of the past centuries on the river-bank. During construction of BAM it was one of the base point of the building.
